The 193rd Philadelphia Flower Show "Chinese Culture Festival" was held at FDR Park in Philadelphia from June 11 to June 19, 2022. The event was hosted by the Sino-American Business and Travel Association (the founder of "Window of Philadelphia"), assisted by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, and supported by the Consulate General of PR China in New York. On June 17, Consul General of PR China in New York Mr. Huang Ping, attended the "China Day" event and delivered a speech. Pennsylvania Democratic Congressman Scanlon, Philadelphia Mayor Kenny, Deputy Director of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development Briel, Philadelphia City Councilmember Squilla, Helen Kim, and President of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society Reid delivered speeches respectively at the event. More than 60 guests from all walks of life in Pennsylvania attended the "China Day", including Sun Yi, Commisioner on Asian Pacific American Affairs in Pennsylvania, Ryan Fleur, Executive Director of the Philadelphia Orchestra, etc.
The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) is a nonprofit organization, founded in 1827, dedicated to connecting people with horticulture, and together creating beautiful, healthy, and sustainable communities. The PHS Philadelphia Flower Show is the largest and oldest flower show in the Unites States, which attracts approximately 250,000 attendees each year and generates more than $64 million in economic revenue in the Philadelphia metropolitan area. It is also among the top 10 most attended events in the U.S.; In 2014 and 2017, it was named "Best Event in the World" by the International Festivals and Events Association. The 193rd Philadelphia Flower Show in 2022, with the theme of "In Full Bloom", explores the restorative and healing power of nature and plants, while experiencing all that gardening offers to improve human lives.
The organizer, Window of Philadelphia, also invited two Chinese cities, Hangzhou and Yangzhou, which are also famous historical and cultural cities and canal cities, to promote cultural tourism resources during the festival. During the period, wonderful short films such as "China Beyond Imagination", intangible cultural heritage handicrafts such as silk and embroidery crafts from Hangzhou, as well as lacquerware and paper-cut from Yangzhou, met with local tourists of the flower show. The "China Day" event invited Zhang Baojuan, secretary of the Yangzhou Municipal Party Committee, to give a video introduction to Yangzhou. The "Chinese Culture Festival" allows the American people to have a more intuitive understanding of the urban appearance, development vitality and people's pursuit of a better life in China today, and also provides more choices for international travel plans for travel enthusiasts after the epidemic.
